You would think as a Fort Myers and Bonita Springs Photographer in business for over six years I would have been to this fantastic Bonita Springs location before. However, this was the first time I’ve photographed at this spot in Bonita Springs Florida for Jenna and Derek’s engagement photography. One of the key things I look for in an e-session (Engagement Photo session) is a place with many photographer friendly backdrops in a very short walking distance and this Bonita location has it all from a beautiful creek, cool red bridge, banyan trees, train tracks and wooded paths! I’m not going to provide the location name for other photographers (although its not too hard to find), but you can bet we’ll be back with future engaged couples from the Bonita Springs and the Naples area for additional engagement photo shoots.

OK, enough about the location, with out further delay, here are a few of our favorite moments from Jenna and Derek’s session. While we will not be flying out to providing their wedding photography, I’m sure they will have a blast on 11-11-2011!!

Downtown Fort Myers Wedding – Photography on Sanibel Beach

The Downtown Fort Myers Florida River District is such a great spot for wedding photography! Numerous historic venues like the Burroughs Home, Heitman House, Edison and Ford estates and The Veranda are all great wedding locations. Plus, with the new Hotel Indigo, there’s plenty of room for out of town guests to stay in the heart of the city.

Ania and Matt had an intimate destination wedding in Downtown Ft. Myers. So intimate, we did not meet up with them until we photographed their nuptial celebration on Sanibel Island! Leap Year Photography is blessed to take part in all kinds of weddings — big celebrations with hundreds of guests, to small affairs, like Ania and Matt’s, where it’s just the Bride, Groom and the Sanibel beach. We weren’t sure that we wouldn’t be rained out, but I think you’ll see from the photos below, it was very picturesque day – having great subjects didn’t hurt either!

Pink Shell Resort Fort Myers Beach Weddings

As a Fort Myers Photographer I’m frequently asked what my favorite venues are for weddings in the Ft Myers area. The Pink Shell Beach Resort and Spa certainly is on the top of my list! The Pink Shell’s beach location provides a very picturesque wedding setting all photographers would love. Not only that, they have fantastic staff and other amenities that make it a great location for a destination wedding. As a Bride you’ll appreciate that the Pink Shell has a dedicated coordinator, like Dony Bruder, for every wedding. We especially liked that Dony coordinated in a ‘photography mindful’ way as well, checking in with us on the time-line of the day frequently.

Lovers Key State Park Engagement Photography – Fort Myers Beach Check List!

Certainly, before any engagement photography is to take place, you need a great to-be-wed couple like Karen and Zach.
The Lovers Key Beach is a fantastic location, but you do need a not-rainy day, so check the forecast.
The right time of day! Timing is everything… If you want great beach engagement or wedding photography don’t plan on starting at high noon! Early in the morning or close to sunset are the best times. Plus, it’s just more comfortable – if you’re relaxed it shows in your pictures.
Speaking of comfortable, you’ll want a photographer you’re comfortable with, one with who lets you be yourself and lets your love show in your photos. Shameless plug, but, who better than Fort Myers Beach Photographer Erin Wilson of Leap Year Photography for your engagement session?
And the most important item on our check list — DEEP WOODS OFF or the like, but it should contain the highest percentage of DEET you are comfortable with. Remember that this is the beach in Florida and, depending on the time of year, it can be buggy, but with a little preparation, you can stack the deck in your favor and have a fun e-session with images that will last a lifetime.

Sanibel Island Photographer and Captiva Island Photographers at South Seas Resort

We met the Cariveau family for a photography session during their vacation at the South Seas Resort back in March. Being Captiva Island Photographers in the Spring time is beautiful thing! The temperature was just right with the water still cool enough to provide the perfect sea breeze to keep everyone comfortable. The breeze did present some challenges for getting photos without hair blowing all over, but that’s not unexpected for beach photography.

Above is one of my favorite photographs from their portrait session. With the two little ones in the background playing and proud parents posing in front of the fantastic Captiva Island beach view. It does not get much better than this… Clearly they are a very blessed family!

The South Seas Resort is just past some of Captiva Island’s famous restaurants, The Mucky Duck, The Bubble Room and The Mad Hatter! Many visitors from off-island come just for the restaurants, but the best Captiva attraction (in and out of peak season) is a leisurely stroll on the tropical peaceful beach. Captiva’s beach is like a different world compared to the party scene of Fort Myers Beach…

Wedding Photography from the Sundial Resort and The Dunes Sanibel Island

Anne and Matt’s wedding photography from Sundial Beach & Golf Resort on Sanibel Island, with their reception at the The Dunes Golf Resort, also on Sanibel Island.

To say, as photographers, we’ve been blessed with good weather for our wedding photography would be an understatement. We’ve only had one wedding that had to move to an alternate inside location because of rain. However, we thought Anne and Matt were going to be the second Bride and Groom to have a rain out. It was raining all morning, but, as if it was planned, about an hour before the wedding, the sun came out!

Perhaps part one of the reasons the Sundial Resort was voted “Best of The Knot Weddings in 2010″ was due to how flexible their staff was. The Pear Whelk Beach wedding ceremony location was not set up due to the rain but, the Sundial Resort (with the help of some guests) quickly had everything in place, just in time!

The Sundial Beach & Golf Resort is located at 1451 Middle Gulf Drive, Sanibel Island, Florida 33957.

While The Dunes has an 18-hole championship golf course, the focus this night was on Anne and Matt’s wedding reception in the Rassa restaurant. It was clear to this photographer that all their friends and family had a great time from the wedding dance to the cake cutting. And their cake didn’t just look good — it was delicious! We usually stick to the photography and don’t have cake, but when we heard it was from Mason’s Bakery we couldn’t resist!

Elena and Dave contacted us for professional engagement photography on Sanibel Island. They weren’t quite sure what location they wanted, but they knew they wanted the beach, no other people if possible and some greenery. We knew just the spot! You may have thought this would be the point where I’d say the fantastic Sanibel beach location, but we’ll keep that exact spot between us, Elena and Dave…

While all you need is a digital camera to capture high-quality photos, it takes two additional people to capture something that transcends time — LOVE! With Elena and Dave’s engagement photos one thing is clear, their love for each other! Seeing them look into each others eyes and sharing the romantic sunset together certainly made this photographer’s job just a little easier.

Naples Photographer Ashley and Josh’s Engagement on 5th Avenue!

5th Avenue in Naples is a great spot for an engagement photography session! One of the things I look for as a photographer is a location that has lots of texture and background changes in one area. Fifth Avenue has buildings with old bricks, unique photographic backdrops down each side street, a fun park and with the beach just at the end of the street, photographers really couldn’t ask for more.

Enough about the location of our photo-shoot, a photographer can’t get engagement photographs without fantastic clients like Ashley and Josh to take pictures of! They were great to work with, open to any type of photos we wanted to take and Erin finally was able to use a setting she had been thinking about for a long time — an e-session at the Ice Cream shop!

Fort Myers Beach Wedding Photographer at Bowditch Point

Doug and Danielle had a beautiful wedding on Fort Myers Beach at Bowditch Point Park! I’m sure photographers say this about all their clients, but D&D truly were one of the nicest clients we’ve worked with. Their love and emotion for each other was clear and we were honored to be a part of their wedding day.

It’s funny that no matter how many times we photograph weddings on Ft Myers Beach, there is always another great venue or location that the area has to offer. Bowditch Point is the perfect setting for an intimate ceremony, just down the road from the Pink Shell Resort and not too many people. It’s also a great beach for the sunset, which as you can see below, certainly delivered for D&D’s wedding.

Captiva Island Photographer – Weddings too!

We’ve been photographing out on Captiva Island, South Seas Resort and ‘Tween Waters quite a bit lately! And what better place for a Wedding Photographer and Family Photographers to work! It’s great to see Blind Pass open to the Gulf of Mexico again too.

For this photo shoot we met Mike, Khan, Justin and Ashley at South Seas for family portraits at sunset. While we couldn’t exactly see the tropical-island sun as it was setting this time, it did create some beautiful pink, purple and blue clouds… The evening on Captiva’s Beach was very tranquil and relaxing — its sometimes easy to forget you are actually working!
